Cisco and NetApp are collaborating to expand the FlexPod portfolio with the introduction of FlexPod Select. Designed for data-intensive workloads, this new platform is positioned to make data centre infrastructures more agile and responsive.
With innovations in networking, modern data centres are expected to handle a growing flow of information. This has given rise to the need to unify storage, networks, applications and analytics into a responsive, automated system. The FlexPod Select has been designed to meet these needs as a part of Cisco and NetApps joint strategy to consolidate branch offices, core data centres, service providers and dedicated application infrastructures.
The latest offering from Cisco and NetApp addresses targeted workloads like high performance applications. The FlexPod Select will initially serve Hadoop based big data applications in the financial, government, retail and other sectors. It is designed to scale seamlessly as application requirements increase.
“Cisco and NetApp are committed to constant innovation in our joint FlexPod platform to address the business needs of our mutual customers,” vice president of United Computing Marketing at Cisco, Jim McHugh said. “This portfolio expansion delivers broader flexibility across the unified data center for an open, scalable, multicloud infrastructure that can now also support some of the world’s largest datasets. Together we can help our customers simplify their data center infrastructure deployments and transform IT from a cost center to an asset for innovation and success.”
The FlexPod Select features Cisco UCS C-Series servers, Cisco Nexus switches, and Cisco management software. It is the first solution in the FlexPod portfolio that offers integration with NetApp E-Series platform that delivers modular flexibility to data-intensive processes. The FlexPod Select also has a Hadoop option that can validate the open source analytics platform for storage, network, connectivity and management.
“As more organizations look to incorporate powerful data management tools such as Hadoop into their environments, customers will need solutions that greatly simplify infrastructure deployment and management, deliver budget efficiency, reduce risk, and increase IT agility to create enterprise-class environments,” said Brendon Howe, vice president of Product and Solutions Marketing at NetApp.
The FlexPod portfolio includes FlexPod Datacenter for core enterprise data centres and service provices and FlexPod Express for medium sized businesses.
